"Don’t believe the positive reviews! ROLL THE DICE if you want. I would not. Positive reviews are likely luck of the draw. My impression- this is a dump. Would not pay 50euro. If I dropped my child off and said it was a dorm room - they would quit school. No air conditioning. Walls are damaged, door frame is damaged, no AC, floors are poorly maintained, there’s very little that they could do to make it worse. Oh, and there are supplies for tea but there is no device to make hot water. Oh, you’re in room ###, it broken. Read other reviews - they know it are too damn cheap to do anything. “ That’s why there is a fan in your room”. What?!?!? That’s not AC. Brought up a bigger fan and tried to convince me it was a cooling device. BS, it’s just a bigger fan. I have such a little confidence in this hotel. I’m afraid to even take a shower or sleep in the bed. Unfortunately, I have no choice, but to sleep here. It is poorly maintained, and when you don’t maintain a hotel, God knows what else is going on here. Take a look at the pictures and you will see."

"Absolutely comforting and comfortable, we stayed there with our family and enjoyed a room with a view on the espariat street with it’s fountain. We were a little doubtful due to some comments on the AC but it worked perfectly. We were advised by a really nice receptionist who speaks fluent English and made us a reservation at an absolutely tasty Lebanese restaurant in Aix en Provence. Breakfast was also a blessing, we enjoyed charcuterie, croissants ,milk and juice in a really well air conditioned restaurant like space (it was like 35 degrees outside) . Definitely recommended!"

"My advice? Look elsewhere. One very graceless, unprofessional receptionist who could not hide his impatience when I was slow to give my name ( all whilst I gave him a printed confirmation with all my details on it, which he ignored). Room unlike any advertised on their Booking.com, so very deceptive. Tiny, airless, with a fridge that didn't work and nowhere to put belongings. Air con didn't work properly, reported twice then gave up as they clearly had no intention of helping ( previous reviews suggest this problem goes back months if not years, so how utterly cynical of the management not to rectify this for paying clients). The fan in the room also points to this being an ongoing established problem. Really uncomfortable and dehydrated at night. Stayed 2 nights and when room was made up, towels were taken away and not fully replaced, leaving us with one hand towel and one bath towel. Bottled water also not replaced. Breakfast was fine but goodness, awful milk! Breakfast staff lovely. A small group in a corner of the breakfast room had laptops and were clearly having some kind of marketing meeting. If only they'd asked. A good consistent level of 'accueil', comfortable temperatures in these extreme heat conditions, rooms that properly reflect the online photos- these are worth far more than establishing further 'online presence' unless you are only interested in one-off visits ( sadly I suspect this to be the case). In short- invest in the hotel not your online presence with platitudes about being delighted to welcome us (The guy in reception was anything but!). And train all your front of house staff for a more consistent and happier customer experience."

"The location of Hôtel de France is excellent — right in the heart of Aix-en-Provence — but unfortunately, that’s the only positive. The room we received did not match the photos advertised online, and to make matters worse, the air conditioning was not working. When we asked the manager to turn it on (as it was clearly listed as a feature), he refused, stating it was a policy to save electricity. His only solution was to open the windows — but right below our room were two noisy bars, making it impossible to sleep. While the front desk staff was kind and helpful, the manager was inflexible and unprofessional. We had to leave the hotel the same night and find another place to stay. Despite requesting a refund for services not provided, the manager refused. A very disappointing experience that does not reflect the charm of Aix-en-Provence."

"Very friendly guy on reception. Gave us great directions & a map. We stayed with our small maltese dog and enjoyed it. Right in the centre of it all. Plenty of bars & restaurants all around. Perfect location hotel. Many thanks."
