"We arrived quite late close to their closing time but the staff were so kind to invite us in. All the staff is so friendly—Reni, Clara, Ralph—and it’s a lovely experience hearing about their cultural inspiration, history from a food truck, and their vision. The drinks and bruschetta we tried were amazing, and the entire menu was so intentional and complex. We can’t wait to return for the dinner and brunch menus! It’s a beautiful and cozy environment for drinks and special selection of flavors:)"

"Both the mushroom dulet appetizer and chicken tibs we had were an explosion of flavors, I was floored by how tasty they were. Plus they weren’t too spicy either, speaking as someone who usually can’t handle too spicy a food. I also quite enjoyed the little expanding towelettes at the beginning of the meal, such a nice touch!"

"Visited Makina, this new Ethiopian restaurant in Sunnyside on just their 4th day after opening, and it was absolutely worth the wait. I’ve been looking forward to this place, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and although we waited about 10 minutes, we ended up with a great spot and even got to chat with the owner during the wait — a lovely personal touch. The food was fantastic. Everything is served with injera as the base, as it should be, and every dish we tried was delicious. A strong recommendation for the mushroom dulet appetizer — truly standout. From the thoughtful details like the expanding hand towels (just add warm water!) to the curated cocktails, wine and a beautifully done fish entrée, everything felt well thought out and flavorful. So happy Sunnyside finally has an Ethiopian restaurant. Will definitely be back, and highly recommend giving this place a try!"

"Amazing complexity of flavors that we didn’t know we could find in Sunnyside. We went on the third day of their soft opening, and although it was packed, the staff did their best to accommodate everyone with smiles on their faces. Truly a gem."

"We were so excited to be at Makina Cafe's opening night in Sunnyside. Learning about the influences of the food, the story behind the resteraunt's design and meeting the team was wonderful! The food and drinks were all delicious from the injera bruschetta to start to the flourless chocolate cake to end on a sweet note. We also enjoyed a beer and smokey hibiscus cocktail. Makina is definitely a perfect new addition to the neighborhood! We can't wait to try everything on the menu!"
