"Very good value proposition AYCE option for hotpot and skewers. They have multiple locations across Brooklyn and Manhattan because the broth and food is good. My go to broth is usually bone or tomato soup base. The fish/shrimp paste is underrated and done well! If your birthday is within 3 days and you have a party or 4 or more, the birthday guy/gal eats for free. Just tell them you don’t want the loud music celebration or else they’ll do it. The interior decor is also themed nicely for “Lao Jie” experience. The best part is always the dessert as everyone enjoyed the mango pudding at the end! Make sure to wear clothes that you don’t mind attracting all that hot pot scent afterwards because it definitely will soak up all the aroma!"

"Always a great time when I go to LaoJie. My family calls it Lao Gai, or old street, in our dialect. The food is awesome, the service is awesome, the atmosphere is awesome. They provide bags to put your coats and bags in. The skewers here are a must. No need to worry about food poisoning due to undercooked food. The skewers come prepared and ready to eat. The hotpot is also very solid. Much better than some other options available to you on 8th ave. There is unlimited soda so I had my fair share of diet coke. Ventilation is great so I didn't need to burn up as I had my food cooking up in front of me. All in all, this was a very solid hotpot and bbq skewer restaurant in the 8th ave area!"

"A very good hot pot restaurant in Brooklyn. Various type of broad for selecting and also yummy. Food and meat are fresh, also vegetables. high-quality items. Affordable price and energetic atmosphere. The sauce you can made and designed by your own. The Fried Bun with condensed milk is also good / Yummy !! Recommend. They also like the good service quick and friendly, attentive staffs. We will back again for sure!!"

"If you’re looking to find hair in your food, then this is the right establishment for you. We’ve been regulars here for a long time—coming almost every week and always ordering the seafood hot pot. But after our latest visit, we’ve sadly decided not to return. Not long after we started eating, we found a hair in the soup. The waiter helping us even saw it and brought over the manager. While the manager did apologize, he immediately started questioning the situation—asking if the hair was long or short—which felt unnecessary and off-putting. It didn’t matter what kind of hair it was; the problem was that there was hair in the food. Eventually, both soup bases were replaced. After waiting a while for the new broth to boil, we continued our meal—only to find another hair, this time in the other soup base, tangled in the vegetables. At that point, it was no longer just a one-time mistake—it felt like a serious hygiene issue. Two hairs, in two different pots, in the same night? We completely lost our appetite. We asked for the check, simply wanting to leave. The manager came back and offered 20% off. But in an all-you-can-eat setting, that made absolutely no sense. It felt like they were assuming we were 80% full, so 20% off should make up for it. But we hadn’t even eaten half of what we normally would—we had to stop because of how grossed out we were. The discount felt arbitrary and dismissive, as if they just wanted us to leave quietly. It’s not about the money—it’s about how the situation was handled. One hair might be excusable. But two, along with an insincere apology and a meaningless discount, shows a clear lack of care and accountability. We left hungry, disappointed, and ready to find a new go-to hot pot spot."

"Walked in for lunch after deciding to eat hot pot. The all you can eat price is pretty cheap. Service is quick and they were attentive. Overall they have a good interior and I think there was dry ice floating around too which was pretty cool."
