"TLDR; retaliatory service for request for invoice. If you choose to spend money here request an invoice upon the first fitting and an itemized list of services being provided. I know Natalie will respond trying to discredit my experience below and the picture above, but sending my personal experience with Tailoress into the ether for potential customers to review. I would not have gone through the hassle of writing a bad review if the work was done with an even average level of craftsmanship, but the 3 days spent corresponding with the head tailor were horrible and the above photo is the hem I received back on my wedding dress after paying a $600 invoice for a hem and tightened spaghetti straps. First, the verbal communication of price and service did not match the invoice that came the day before my third fitting. My requests for alterations never wavered since my first meeting with the team, and it was my understanding that the requested work was included in the deposit I paid upon the first fitting. The second fitting showed little to no alterations, so again I requested the same service I had requested during the first fitting (the assistant tailor was having a bad day so I did not want to press on why the dress wasn’t worked on). No new pinning was made to the hem during the second fitting. Then, 3 days before my third fitting (and after Tailoress had held onto my dress for over two months), the assistant tailor called to tell me that to continue with the alterations, I would have to pay another $170 fee. I honestly would have happily paid the fee if the services were explained to me upfront. The Tailoress website says they provide an itemized invoice for their services but I did not get one until the day before my third fitting, after Tailoress had been in possession of my dress for over two months. My request for more information regarding the extra fee was immediately met with condescension, and the invoice that was finally sent included another hem fee on top of the price I was initially quoted, which I was told upon my first fitting included the whole hem. Again, my requests never changed from the first fitting, and I never once requested a discount. I literally only asked for an itemized invoice. Finally, upon picking up my dress at my final fitting, this was the craftsmanship Tailoress provided. I’m shocked at this apparent retaliation for asking for an invoice. I wish I didn’t spend the $600 and the stress of communicating with the head tailor only to receive this hem back. EDIT TO INITIAL POST: As noted in the pictures above, these pictures were taken at my home, after Tailoress sent me home from my third fitting. This is the hem that was a final product in their eyes as a tailoring business."

"Although I've been to Tailoress a few times, it's been a while. I had this less-than-positive experience, but generally don't like to leave reviews, especially for a small business. I live nearby and every time I walk by I wish I had said something more. So here I go: I brought in a spaghetti strap Reformation dress to ask them to repair the straps and replace the metal S hooks that had been lost/broken--I asked them to match the remaining metal hook so that the dress looked uniform. When the service was finished, I returned to find they had used plastic S hooks instead of metal ones. On top of that, the thread was not even in the same color palate as the dress, so it was visible and unseemly. When I asked them why they used plastic instead of metal, they told me that their materials are "ethically sourced" and that they weren't able to source the hooks needed in metal. I understand and highly value the ethical sourcing of materials--but even if they didn't want to use Amazon or another less-than-ethical shipping company, where they could have found 500-packs of metal S hooks for 16.99, they could have gone to the garment district in our fair city, and purchased some hooks from another small business. I also feel that it's a little silly to tell me after charging me and repairing that they didn't have the materials to successfully do what I needed. I pushed back letting them know I could source the s hooks if they would redo the repair, but they refused. And it wasn't cheap, either!! Anyway, I returned home with my dress, determined to make the most of it, but I've never worn it since--the plastic s hooks stick out over the top of the garment, making the dress less appealing, and they constantly slip out of their hooks, meaning that any time I put the dress on, the straps pop off of my shoulders. TL;DR: Be ready to advocate for yourself here, as the patrons will not do their best to help."

"Great customer service and alterations. They work with celebrity clientele as well. Owner was inspired by Betsy Johnson, and her shop is adorable. They also do custom work upon request, just tell them what you're interested in doing so you can schedule a consultation. The owner is really down-to-earth, and personable. She helped with the alterations for my daughter's prom dress. Check them out, I had a positive experience and will return in the near future."
