"I decided to try this barbershop with an open mind, but my experience was uncomfortable in ways that I feel are important to share, especially for Black clients. During my appointment, the barber Arthur made several comments about my hair texture being ‘very coarse,’ and implied that Caribbean hair is coarser than African American hair. These comments felt stereotypical and uninformed, and I’ve never had a barber speak about my hair in this way. He also repeatedly asked where I live, insisted on specific details, and brought up topics about crime associated with the neighborhood I mentioned — which felt inappropriate and made the conversation uncomfortable. I also noticed several assumptions about me based on my background, including comments about language and culture. Combined with a lot of unsolicited opinions about how my hair ‘should’ be cut, the experience didn’t feel respectful or culturally aware. The haircut itself was not well-done, and it seemed like the barber didn’t have experience working with my hair type. I’m sharing this so other clients — especially Black clients or clients with textured hair — know what to expect. I hope this feedback helps the shop provide more inclusive and culturally informed service moving forward. This review is not fake. I was a walk-in client, so there may not be an online record. My experience was exactly as described, and I’m sharing it so others are aware. I’m not interested in arguing — just stating my honest experience."

"I recently had a fantastic experience at Ace of Fades Barbershop, located at 128 8th Avenue and 17th Street. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism. Julia, the barber, was incredible. She provided a nice fade and carefully shaped and styled my hair, paying attention to every detail. The result was exactly what I wanted, and I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend Julia and the team at Ace of Fades for anyone looking for quality service and a great haircut!"

"I had a perfect experience at ace of fades. I just moved to the neighborhood and was worried about trying to find a new barber. Thankfully the reviews about CJ lived up to the hype; he was very friendly and welcoming, and did a perfect job. Best haircut I’ve had in my 3 years in nyc, will definitely be back."

"Had a great experience with CJ today. I was desperate for a cut so I rolled thee dice as a walk-in at Ace of Fades. I showed CJ a pic of a prior cut and along with him asking all the right questions, came out great. He was also a pleasure to chat with. Highly recommend."
